  • Site: an area with limbs, rocks, loose soil or sand that can be measured
  • Safety: No special considerations
  • Materials/Prep: Metric measuring tools, paper, pencils, flagging, practice sheets, and caper cards.

How long, far, heavy, cold or hot, or big is this object?

Learning outcomes:
  • The length, mass, volume, and temperature of objects can be measured.
  • The length, mass, volume, and temperature of objects can be estimated.

Summary:
The youngsters are split into two teams. They go to separate sites and pick out various objects in their environment to weigh, measure the length, width, volume, or find the temperature of. The two teams then switch sites and estimate these values for the objects the other team has measured.
